In the Himalayas, two extraordinary beings engaged in a conversation. One was Lord Garuda, the mighty vahana of Lord Vishnu, and the other was a sage named Kak Bushi, who had taken on the form of a crow. During their discussion, Garuda was utterly amazed when Kak Bushi revealed that he had witnessed the Ramayana not once, but an astounding 11 times. Garuda couldn't help but wonder how this was possible.
Kak Bushi then shared an astonishing secret: he could journey through time. He had watched the Ramayana unfold 11 times, each with unique twists, and the Mahabharata play out 16 times, yielding different results. However, he had also witnessed the Daksha Yaga twice but chose not to revisit it as it ended the same way every time.
This is the extraordinary tale of Bushi, a sage who was transformed into a crow due to a curse but later bestowed with the extraordinary power to journey through time and space. Once upon a time, there lived a learned Brahman deeply devoted to Lord Shiva. His path crossed with that of a young man from Ayodhya who, despite being an ardent follower of Lord Shiva, was marked by arrogance and ego. This young man aspired to become the Brahman's disciple but held a strong aversion towards Lord Rama, worshiping only Lord Shiva. Despite the guru's patient attempts to convey that Lord Shiva revered Lord Rama, the young man persisted in disrespecting Rama.
One day, as the young man meditated in a Shiva Temple, his Guru entered. Ignoring his Guru and his arrogance, the young man failed to offer the respect due to him. While the compassionate Brahman forgave his disciple's disrespectful behavior, Lord Shiva, incensed by the young man's arrogance, cursed him to become a serpent and reside within the hollow of a tree.
Filled with both fear and compassion, the guru fervently prayed to Lord Shiva, pleading for the curse to be lifted. Touched by the Brahmin's unwavering devotion, Lord Shiva relented. He modified the curse, decreeing that the young man would first take the form of a serpent, followed by 1,000 different subhuman births. In these births and deaths, he would experience no pain. Only after these 1,000 lives would he be reborn as a Brahman and attain the grace of Lord Rama with the full recollection of all his past lives.
Upon completing these 1,000 births, the young man became Bushi, harboring a deep interest in hearing about Lord Rama's heroic tales. His quest led him to a place where the renowned Sage Lomasa resided, seeking knowledge about Lord Rama. Lomasa, however, was focused on teaching the formless and shapeless nature of God. Bushi persisted, desiring to hear only about Lord Rama. His unwavering devotion eventually led to a confrontation with Lomasa, who, in a fit of anger, cursed him to become a crow due to his stubborn and opinionated nature.
Bushi accepted this curse gracefully, chanting Lord Rama's name as he departed. Upon learning of Bushi's curse, Lord Shiva approached Lomasa, imploring him to assist Bushi in attaining true devotion. Lomasa, realizing his mistake, offered apologies and began imparting all his knowledge to Bushi. Later, Lord Rama blessed Bushi with the extraordinary power to transcend space and time.
With this gift, Bushi watched the events of the Ramayana play out 11 times and the Mahabharata 16 times, each with different results as they occurred somewhat differently in different kalpas. Thus, Bushi was granted immortality and earned the name KCK Bushi, signifying his crow form. His immortality granted him a revered place among the Chiranjivi, the truly immortal beings who persist in their original physical bodies.
Kak Bushi, a sage in the form of a crow, possessed an extraordinary ability to journey through time and witnessed the Ramayana 11 times and the Mahabharata 16 times, each with unique twists.
Kak Bushi's journey began as a young man marked by arrogance and ego, leading to a curse by Lord Shiva that transformed him into a serpent and subjected him to 1,000 subhuman births before becoming a Brahman.
Following these births, he embraced the name Bushi and sought knowledge about Lord Rama. He was cursed by Sage Lomasa to become a crow due to his stubbornness and insistence on learning about Lord Rama exclusively.
Lord Shiva, recognizing Bushi's devotion, intervened and asked Lomasa to help Bushi attain true devotion. Lomasa apologized and shared his knowledge, and Lord Rama later blessed Bushi with the power to transcend time and space.
Bushi's newfound ability allowed him to witness the Ramayana and the Mahabharata multiple times, with different outcomes, making him immortal and granting him a revered place among the Chiranjivi, beings who persist in their original physical bodies.
